Street Lab Meets Berlin!

Urban Art Festival | In a few days, Berlin fuckin’ town will witness a new, fresh and promising urban art festival. The “Street Lab” will present a selection of national and international urban artists who expose the urban hinterland instead of simply just illustrating it. It’s a strong idea the organisers have in mind, for what reason I’m really looking forward to see whether the festival will make the grade…

The festival aims to provide a window into the international urban creative scene and to start a dialogue with the people of this city, about their city. As well as its presence on our streets, the last few years have seen street art appearing in museums, cultural institutions and galleries. Urban art has developed its own gravitas–something that just a few years ago seemed unattainable.

Its influence can be felt in the fields of advertisement, graphic design and fashion, and it has equally influenced the aesthetics of contemporary art. The development of this culture continues out on the streets, with its utopian desire to stake out space and create room for individual expression within the urban landscape. (Street Lab)

Well-known Berlin-based urban artist like 44flavours, Alias, El Bocho, Sam Crew, Irgh and Urkel as well as the Graffiti Research Lab Germany (GRL) will participate with their own unique styles, concepts and ideas!

The festival takes place between March 11th and 13th at different spots in Berlin’s creative areas Kreuzberg and Neukölln including exhibitions, open workspaces, workshops and an urban art circus. Check their website to get the latest news! Unfortunately I will be in Bristol these days…
